Disagreements certainly seem to be the prevailing form of conversation today. Yet, my question isn’t about the presence of disagreement, but rather, it’s have we forgotten how to disagree? I remember a time when disagreements were met with intellectual debates, fostering respectful dialogue and empathy for differing perspectives. Yet we have drifted into an era where disagreeing with one another has become synonymous with anger, hateful comments and pervasive judgement.
The mission of “Beyond Agreement” is to explore polarizing topics while creating a space for respectful debate. We will explore any number of dichotomous topics from geopolitics to health care, to parenting and beyond – with the aim of cultivating a deeper and more nuanced understanding of the topic. The thread that will tie these vast topics together, the cornerstone of “Beyond Agreement” is to truly listen to diverse perspectives, understand the journey others walked while coming to hold that view and most importantly to practice the art of disagreeing with kindness.
The premise, while profound, can seem heavy at times, and our discussions may indeed be. To provide balance, Beyond Agreement offers spirited discourse on life’s lighter matters after each segment…From ‘is it ok to leave someone on “read”’, to ‘sneakers…socks or no socks?’ these are the kinds of lighter debates you can expect. This deliberate shift aims to remind us of the shared humanity that exists beyond the online personas, underscoring that even while disagreeing on politics or parenting, we can often still agree that pineapple has no place on pizza.
